Ilse Timperman received her doctoral diploma as sinologist at the Catholic University of Leuven and is a certified translator of the Mandarin language. In addition, she graduated as archaeologist from the Leiden University in the Netherlands, specializing in Chinese archaeology. Following her sinology studies, she completed a one-year post-graduate course at the Sichuan United University in Chengdu.

From November 2002 to June 2004, Ilse worked as Chief Representative for a Dutch localisation company in Beijing where she managed a team of translators, proofreaders, testers, and DTP specialists.

In January 2002, Ilse founded Chinese matters. From the start, she was closely involved in the relationship between the sister provinces Fryslân (NL) and Sichuan and frequently acted as an interpreter for Mr. Nijpels, the Queen’s Commissioner for the province of Fryslân. She also has done interpretation work for State Secretary Ybema (NL) and Flemish minister Landuyt.

Ilse worked for 5 years at CHKD, a subsidiary of the China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC), one of the best-known international companies in China. She functioned there as project manager, accompanied numerous Chinese delegations in the course of their training programs in the EU, and acted as interpreter during their business visits.

As a teacher, Ilse gained experience with the Dutch China Association (VNC), and with the KvK in Harlem. She was enrolled in a teacher training program at the Iber Lengua Institute in Harlem.

Ilse Timperman is a member of the Netherlands Society of Interpreters and Translators (NGTV) and of the Belgian Chamber of Translators, Interpreters, and Philologists (BKVTF).
